Last War Hero Formations: Tank, Aircraft and Missile Teams
LW Spy · Independent fan website
A useful Last War formation starts with roles, not a universal tier list: five heroes occupy two front-row and three back-row positions. Put durable defenders in front and protect damage dealers or support behind them as your starting setup. Hero availability, investment, opponents and seasonal systems can change the best choice. The examples below are reference formations, not a promise to beat every team.
Tank, Aircraft and Missile formation examples
Compare these established mono-type examples with your own roster. Kimberly is a Tank attacker, not an Aircraft hero. Schuyler is an Aircraft attacker, not an SR support hero. There is no third, central front-row slot.
| Vehicle type | Two front-row heroes | Three back-row heroes |
|---|---|---|
| Tank | Murphy, Williams | Kimberly, Stetmann, Marshall |
| Aircraft | Carlie, Lucius | DVA, Morrison, Schuyler |
| Missile Vehicle | Adam, McGregor | Tesla, Fiona, Swift |
Early-game lineup: use what you can develop
You will not necessarily own every hero in a reference squad. Keep a functional front line, choose your strongest developed damage options and inspect the type bonus shown by the formation screen. Replacing a trained hero with an undeveloped UR simply to match a screenshot can make the squad worse. Before using scarce universal materials, check whether the hero fits the team you intend to keep. A temporary mixed team is a decision to test, not automatically a mistake.
Understand vehicle type versus battle role
Tank, Aircraft and Missile Vehicle describe vehicle types. Defender, attacker and support describe jobs within a team. A Tank-type hero is therefore not necessarily a front-line defender. The type counter cycle favors Aircraft against Tank, Tank against Missile, and Missile against Aircraft, but investment can outweigh the matchup. Read the actual formation bonus and skill wording in your client rather than adding an assumed percentage to all five heroes.
Test one change at a time
Choose a repeatable fight or comparable opponent. Keep equipment, troop availability and other bonuses as consistent as possible. Record which front hero falls first, whether your main damage dealer survives long enough to contribute, and the damage shown in the report. Then change one slot or one investment and repeat. A single win or loss is not enough evidence for a universal ranking.
- Front line collapses: inspect defensive skills, equipment and the incoming damage type.
- Damage is low but the team survives: review damage skills and gear allocation.
- A new formation has more displayed power but loses: compare roles and reports before spending more.
- Later-season special systems are involved: verify their unlock and exact skill text on your server.
What to upgrade next
Spend toward the bottleneck your comparison revealed. If your main damage dealer dies immediately, improving damage alone may not fix the result. If the front holds but damage is low, a defensive upgrade on a reserve hero is unlikely to help this squad. Do not scatter limited skill materials across several unfinished formations without a clear use for them.
Scope and corrections
This guide replaces an earlier version that misclassified heroes and described unsupported slot effects. It does not assert a single 2026 meta, a fixed damage increase, or a universal Awakening schedule.
