What is Exposed Base in Last War: Survival?

An exposed base in Last War: Survival is a base whose shield timer has run out (or was never set) — meaning any other player on the warzone can rally it, solo march it, or scout it. "Exposed" is the trigger word for every offensive action in the game.

What makes a base exposed

A base is in the exposed state any time it does not have an active shield item running. The most common causes are: the previous shield expired and the player hasn't logged in to re-shield; the player ran out of shield items in their bag; the player intentionally dropped shield to attack someone else (attacks consume your shield in some game modes); or the player popped a manual remove because they wanted to gather without the protective dome.

The exposed window can last anywhere from a few seconds to days. Active whales rarely sit exposed for long because they re-shield immediately after their offensive march returns. Inactive accounts can stay exposed for weeks. The biggest opportunities are in the middle band — semi-active players who drop shield to gather resources and don't notice when their shield item runs out.

Why exposed bases are the meta target

Every alliance war, every KvK, every Kill Event is fundamentally a race to land rallies on enemy exposed bases before they re-shield. Shielded bases are untargetable — the rally button is greyed out — so the entire offensive game loop comes down to: detect exposed → calculate march time → rally → land before re-shield.

This is why exposed-target intelligence is the single highest-value piece of data in Last War: Survival. The LW Spy exposed target scanner returns every currently unshielded base on the warzone, sorted by power, with full coordinates ready to send to the in-game chat. Alliance war captains run this sweep every few minutes during active wars and pipe the top-N high-power exposed list straight into the war room.

The attack window: from exposed to rally-land

When a shield drops, an attacker has to: detect the drop, decide to rally, click rally, fill the rally with alliance members, then wait the rally march time (typically 2-15 minutes depending on map distance). The defender, meanwhile, has the same window to react: log in, see the unshielded state, and tap a new shield. The fastest way to lose a rally is to spend 90 seconds picking a target — by the time the rally is filled, the enemy has re-shielded.

This is why pre-staging matters. Top alliances watch a shield-tracker countdown for known whales and start the rally fill in the final 60 seconds before the shield drops, so the rally launches the second the base is targetable. The LW Spy Discord bot pushes a notification when a watched base drops shield, which collapses the detect-time portion of the window to near-zero.

How to NOT be the exposed base

Defensively, the rule is: never leave shield to expire while offline. Set a phone alarm 5 minutes before any shield runs out and either log in to re-shield or queue a longer-duration item before you go offline.

During active KvK / Kill Events, never gather resources or dispatch troops without a shield. Both actions leave armies outside the base — the base may stay shielded but the marching army is fully exposed and can be killed mid-route.

If your shield runs out unexpectedly (you ran out of items, you were AFK), the fastest fix is a 1-hour Peace Shield from the alliance store or diamond shop. It buys time to log out and re-stock without eating a rally.

Exposed-target intel: in-game vs LW Spy

The in-game world map technically shows every base on the warzone — but with 8,000+ tiles to scroll through, manual scouting is impossible. The shield icon is the only visual cue, and you can't sort or filter the map by shield state. Most players just check the bases of known enemies one at a time.

The LW Spy exposed-target scanner inverts this: it returns the full list of every unshielded base on the warzone in one pass, filterable by power, alliance, base level, or distance. Combined with the alliance scanner, you can narrow the exposed list down to "every R5 in the top 5 enemy alliances who isn't shielded right now". That's the war-winning intel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find exposed bases in Last War?▾
In-game, you have to tap each base manually. With LW Spy, the exposed-target scanner returns every unshielded base on a warzone in a single sweep, sorted by power and ready to rally.
How long do bases stay exposed?▾
Anywhere from seconds (active players re-shield instantly) to days (inactive accounts). The middle band — semi-active gatherers — is where most actual rally targets come from.
Can I rally a shielded base?▾
No. The rally button is disabled on shielded bases. You have to wait for the shield to expire, then rally within the gap before the player re-shields.
Does scouting work on shielded bases?▾
No. Scout marches are also blocked by an active shield. The only way to see what troops a shielded base has is to wait for the shield to drop, or use external intel via LW Spy.
What's the difference between "exposed" and "unshielded"?▾
Same thing — the community uses both terms interchangeably. "Unshielded" tends to refer to the shield state itself; "exposed" tends to refer to the target opportunity that results from the unshielded state.
